'Calm, reassuring and non-judgmental approach'

"After a few days at home with my brand new baby, I was struggling to get breast feeding established and finding it really painful. I emailed Lisa in a panic in the middle of the night after a particularly bad episode and she came round the very next day. I was so grateful for her calm, reassuring, and non-judgmental approach and her practical advice. She helped me to find a good feeding position, answered all of my questions and listened to my concerns with kindness and patience. Based on her advice and help I have been breast feeding successfully and comfortably for three months now, and have a 15lb pumpkin of a baby to show for it! I'm really grateful for her help, as without it I would have been unable to continue breast feeding." Alison

'I met Dana when my daughter was 4 weeks old. I was about to give up breast feeding as I was exhausted, in so much pain and had had very little support from other health professionals. Dana recognized that my daughter had a tongue tie. She gave me a clear explanation about it all and a list of names to contact and websites to look at. Four months later I am still breast feeding! I've gone from dreading every feed and feeling totally inadequate as a mother to absolutely loving feeding my beautiful baby!I can not explain how much you have helped Dana me. Without you I would have given up breast feeding a long time ago. Thank you so much xxx' Rachel

'A few days after my son was born I was having a hard time with breast feeding particularly the latch on and positioning. I immediately thought of Lisa whom I had met through a course and gave her a ring. She arranged not one but two home visits to come observe and help me through these difficulties. Having her come to my home those first few days with a baby was so appreciated.  And her kind, positive personality helped to ease my worries that I wouldn't get the hang of this breast feeding! She actually suggested looking into tongue tie which we eventually found out with contributing to my sons difficulties and once that was sorted everything got much easier. I'm so happy I called her in those first few weeks. It was so comforting to know there was someone I could reach out to for assistance and her approach is so lovely. Many thanks to Lisa!!!!' 'When a mummy friend introduced me to Dana in the early weeks of breastfeeding, it was a massive turning point. Up until that point, having initially only seen health visitors, infant feeding consultants & maternity nurses my experience was very much a negative one. My breasts were man handled (without invitation!) and shoved in my babies mouth to latch on. I felt judged, criticized and pressured for weight-gain results to prove I could/should continue breastfeeding. Dana changed all these experiences and perceptions. We met at a group and i was welcomed with a cuppa and a much needed hug! Sharing my feeding concerns and difficulties was easy. I found her to be calm, patient, caring and supportive. She listened, not criticized. She suggested ideas, not instructed. The biggest thing that helped was reminding me why i had chosen to breastfeed in the first place and returning to using my own instincts as a mother! My daughter is 21 months old now & i still breastfeed once a day. I would have quit long ago if i had not had Dana's support. A phone call a text or a catch up at a group were all really accessible ways to see Dana. Her advice helped me maintain feeding through a few dilemmas such as tongue-tie diagnosis, needing to take medication, weaning onto solids, sleep routines (or lack of!), my own hospital stays and pain/infection. Dana was literally made for this job! Her knowledge, experience and list of suggested solutions exhausted all other professionals capabilities. I would highly recommend Dana for and breastfeeding, bottle feeding and weaning advice and support.' Claire

'Lisa always responded really quickly and made coming round to help a priority - which was fantastic when I was at the end of my tether!
She didn't judge, or tell me I was doing things wrong - she just watched a feed without interfering and then made gentle suggestions.
Whether it was about positioning or helping after tongue-tie, Lisa was always really thorough and helpful, determined to do everything she could to help my baby and I to breastfeed successfully together!'

'After seeing countless breastfeeding specialists I met Dana when my  little boy was 6 weeks old. She turned our breast feeding journey around and I can't thank her enough!' Lucy

'Lisa supported me with breastfeeding shortly before and after the birth of my first child. She was very kind and supportive, giving me lots of helpful information during her visit before the birth. I really struggled with breastfeeding at first, a feat that was made a lot harder by an extremely difficult birth and an extremely hungry baby. When I contacted Lisa, she came round to my house within a day and was brilliant. With her help, I was able to combination feed for the first 4 months. Without support, I would have given up breastfeeding within the first week.'  Anna

'Dana Hunter has been a great help, support and friend since early motherhood and beyond.  Her advice in all aspects of both breastfeeding, baby led weaning and  parenting in general have made me a more confident mother. I know that my journey would have been harder without her. Lisa

I had a horrific labor which left me feeling like I had failed my little girl from the start as I had to have an emergency c section. Then the problems with breastfeeding started and they compounded my feelings of failure: I was a mum and a woman, wasn't this meant to be the easiest and most natural thing in the world? I was crying through every feed, dreading my baby waking up as I was in so much pain. Finally, at 6 weeks, I dragged myself to the group at The Exchange. Dana was so kind and patient while I sobbed out my problems; she listened, questioned and examined Delilah's mouth before diagnosing a lip and tongue tie. She gave me a wealth of information, both there and then and to read in my own time, and we took Delilah to have the lip and tongue tie sorted a couple of days later. The following week I went back to see Dana again feeling so much more positive, and again she gave me time and advice to continue to help with breastfeeding. Were it not for her calm, supportive approach, I would have given up on breastfeeding and continued to feel an overwhelming sense of guilt and failure. I cannot thank her enough for the help she gave me.' Amy
